This painting tells the story of women in Papua New Guinea (PNG) making bilum that is widely used in our country (PNG). In early days, women used bush materials as fibres for making the bilum starting from Coast to the Highlands. Nowadays, they use modern wool to make the bilum which comes in lots of different colours. Most women or people do not realised that making bilum is creating an art work therefore I would like to share through my painting what women are doing is important in our communities that we are living in.

What themes occur/reoccur in your work? Most of my work is based on traditional stories, current issues, natural environment and others.

What is your advice to young, aspiring artists?Art is something that is within you. Continue to experiment and recognise what gifts you have. There is no clear pathway for future artists in Papua New Guinea. Be innovative if you want to pursue your artistry.
